Google co-founder Sergey Brin has donated $500000 to Wikimedia.

The donation was made to the Wikimedia Foundation – the company that runs Wikipedia. Google’s Sergey Brin and his wife Anne Wojcicki donated $500000 to help keep the popular Wikipedia online encyclopedia free of advertising. It comes on Wednesday, days after the Wikimedia Foundation kicked off its eighth annual fundraiser. The foundation’s annual budget is $28.3 million, and it tries to raise most of that from small donors. Last year’s campaign raised $16 million to Wikimedia foundation. Wikipedia was ranked the 5th most popular web-site in Internet with over 470 million unique visitors every month.
