Organizers set a world record on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011.
The announced 9,860 registered participants are dressed in rags and ghoulish makeup to look bloody and decaying. Thousands of self-proclaimed “undead” have gathered in the historic center of Mexico’s capital. Cities around the world hold zombie walks. Previous Guinness World Records, that was recognized, took place in Asbury Park, New Jersey, with 4,093 participants on Oct. 30, 2010. “Zombie Walk” 2011 is meant to celebrate diversity and human rights and the participants collected donations for a local food bank. The new record was not immediately officially confirmed.
