Thousands of Fenerbahce fans, upset and angry over match fixing allegations against their club and imprisonment of their president Aziz Yildirim, invaded the field during a friendly against Shakhtar Donetsk, assaulting media members and forcing the cancellation of the match.
While the Turkish football federation is trying to decide whether to postpone the start of league play because of the matxh fixing scandal, Fenerbahce fans – many wearing masks and T-shirts, which the club officially put on market, bearing the image of imprisoned club chairman Aziz Yildirim – invaded the game pitch in the 67th minute of the game Thursday at Fenerbahce’s Sukru Saracoglu stadium in Istanbul.
