Prince George was christened at St James's Palace

The christening of Prince George has taken place in small and intimate ceremony.

The prince was christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev Justin Welby, in the little known Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace. The private ceremony took place at 15:00 BST and lasted about 45 minutes. The three-month-old royal baby made his first public appearance in three months Wednesday, arriving with his parents, Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. The future monarch will be head of the Church of England when he becomes king. The three-month-old infant is third in line to the British throne, after Prince Charles and Prince William.

Prince George was christened in replica of the intricate lace and satin christening gown made for Queen Victoria’s eldest daughter, Victoria, the Princess Royal, in 1841. Palace officials said that for the christening was used water from the River Jordan, where Christians believe Jesus Christ was baptized.

The ceremony had a small guest list made up of mostly family, including Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, Charles, Camilla and Prince Harry, along with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Kate’s father, mother, brother and sister.

Prince William and Kate named seven godparents, announced earlier. They are Oliver Baker, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, Earl Grosvenor, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, Julia Samuel, William van Cutsem and Zara Tindall.
