Apple was forced to delay the sale of the iPhone 4S smartphone at its flagship Chinese store in Beijing.
Apple Inc. stopped sales of the iPhone 4S at its retail stores in mainland China after a massive crowd waiting outside its Beijing flagship turned unruly, pelting the windows with eggs, hitting a mall employee and refusing police orders to leave. The customers reacted after police announced the China launch of the iPhone 4S was canceled over concerns about the size of the crowd. Many of the customers had camped outside the store overnight. There were no serious problems at Apple’s other three stores in China, as customers were able to get their hands on the new device elsewhere in the country. The phone is still available through the Apple website, service provider China Unicom and other authorized resellers.
