Owners of the world’s largest cut emerald will auction off the gem later this month, and the bidding starts at $1 million.
The Teodora stone, meaning God’s Gift, was found by Calgary-based gem wholesaler Regan Reaney. Kelowna-based Western Star Auctions will auction off the 57,500ct emerald, which is an equivalent to to 11.5 kilograms, on January 28. The stone is shaped like a watermelon, or a soccer ball. The stone has already been evaluated at $1.15 million. The organizers of the auction and the owner of the stone hope that the emerald will fetch from 2 to 2.5 million dollars.
