North Korea leader Kim Jong Il dead at 69.
North Korean television announced in a “special broadcast” that its leader, Kim Jong Il, is dead. North Korea’s news agency reported that he had died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday after having a heart attack on a train, adding that he had been treated for cardiac and cerebrovascular diseases for a long time. Kim Jong Il was the dictator who used fear and isolation to maintain power in North Korea and his nuclear weapons to menace his neighbors and threaten the U.S. Kim was said to have cultivated wide interests, including professional basketball, cars and foreign films. Kim was one of the last remnants of a Cold War-era that ended years earlier in most other countries.
