Chinese audience erupted in cheers when it was announced that the home candidate Yu Wenxia had won.
Miss World 2012 beauty pageant was held at the Ordos Stadium Arena in inner Mongolia, China on August 18. 23-year-old music teacher became China’s second Miss World winner. Besides the traditional swimsuits and evening gowns, participants also donned outlandish costumes, with some dressed as belly dancers. There were 116 participating countries this year – the most number of participating countries ever. Last year’s Miss World, Ivian Sarcos of Venezuela, handed over her crown to Yu, who wore a sparkling blue dress. Miss Wales, Sophie Moulds, came in second, while Miss Australia, Jessica Kahawaty, finished third.
