Samsung is to introduce flexible OLED screen phones for 2012.
Samsung Electronics will launch flexible screen phones next year, presumably for the South Korean market first. The company plans to introduce the technology to tablets and other portable devices. Samsung has shown flexible OLED (organic light emitting diode) displays inside rigid cases that kept the screens curved. The technology has material within each pixel that generates light, making it perhaps more suitable for flexible screens than LCDs. The Korean company’s popular Galaxy S II smartphone continued its strong performance recently, and has now sold 10 million units in five months. The company shipped 27.8 million smartphones in the third quarter.
